MaMassage® Prenatal Massage Therapy Training

MaMassage® Prenatal Massage Therapy training:

(Early bird registration will be followed by regular registration. The early bird class fee is $400, the regular registration fee is $425.)

 Class Requirements and Description:
You must attend both full days of the workshop. (Participants MUST be NYS Licensed Massage Therapists or MP3 Interns at PCOM, with approval by supervisor.)

Upon successful completion of the entire workshop, you can receive:

  • NYS 24 Approved Continuing Education Units for LMTs
  • 16 NCBTMB Units Approved
  • MaMassage® Prenatal Massage Therapy Certification (exam required)

During this class, students will:

  • Learn how to provide safe and effective massage therapy to clients during pregnancy
  • Practice integrated Eastern & Western massage techniques to treat common discomforts associated with pregnancy
  • Examine potential complications, cautions and contraindications, as well as benefits, and helpful techniques for pregnant clients
  • Treat pregnant clients under supervision

Classes will consist of 4 hours of pre-class preparation (using Elaine Stillerman’s Prenatal Massage: A Textbook of Pregnancy, Labor, and Postpartum Bodywork (Mosby’s Massage Career Development) 1st Edition, 16 classroom hours at PCOM and 4 clinical hours to be completed after the training within a specified time period. Registrants will be given two assignments to complete prior to the class, including the purchase of a textbook ($40 new) from which significant reading assignments will be given, as well as a short film to view and a brief writing assignment. NCBTMB members may receive a loaner book (with option to purchase.)

Certificate Policy: The initial certificate you receive after completing all requirements is included in your tuition. Replacement certificates are available for $10 each.

MaMassage® for Hormonal Wellness

Clients who menstruate may experience periods that are slow to start, heavy, lengthy or uncomfortable, with symptoms such as fatigue, localized cramping, general body aches, headaches, and bloating. The intake process should determine if the client may be trying to get pregnant, what their monthly cycle is like (similar in length between periods, length of period, which day is heaviest, accompanying symptoms) to help rule out any contraindications and determine whether a referral is necessary. In this course we will:

*Identify common symptoms/complaints of clients experiencing reproductive/hormonal pathologies such as dysmenorrhea, PCOS, perimenopause, etc.

*Identify contraindications and cautions for reproductive/hormonal pathologies

*Identify session goals for clients with symptoms associated with reproductive / hormonal pathologies

*Demonstrate proficiency in treatment planning for treating clients with reproductive / hormonal pathologies

*Demonstrate proficiency in massage therapy applications for clients with reproductive / hormonal pathologies, including integrative approaches (Swedish, Tui Na, Shiatsu, acupressure, hydrotherapy, aroma therapy, etc.)

*Identify recommendations for self-care for clients with reproductive / hormonal pathologies

Upon successful completion of the entire workshop, participants will receive:

  • NYS and NCBTMB 8 Approved Continuing Education Units for LMTs
  • Certificate of Completion

New Course! MaMassage® for Labor and Postpartum Clients

This course provides in-depth knowledge needed to offer safe and effective massage treatments to laboring and postpartum clients. Students will reinforce their knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the body during the stages of labor and postpartum recovery. Students will learn the complications and contraindications, as well as the benefits, indications, and cautions of labor and postpartum massage. Students will discover massage techniques, Eastern and Western, to treat common discomforts during the stages of labor and postpartum recovery.

Topics will include:

  1. Benefits of labor and postpartum massage
  2. Self-care for pregnant clients leading up to labor
  3. Developing an appropriate intake form for labor and postpartum clients
  4. Effective and empathic communication with clients/couples
  5. Overview of musculoskeletal, physiological, and psychological changes – in labor and postpartum
  6. Cautions and contraindications for labor and postpartum massage
  7. Universal precautions for working in private and/or hospital settings
  8. Complications and high-risk pregnancies – special precautions
  9. Common discomforts of labor and postpartum clients
  10. Table set-up and positioning (side-lying, semi-reclining, bolsters, and pillows)
  11. Demonstration and practice of protocols for early and active labor and the 4th trimester (postpartum) incorporating both Eastern and Western techniques
